Olivia is smart and strategic, with the necessary experience to take Future Women’s multifaceted relationship with Australian employers to the next level”.

Future Women is determined to keep our country’s collective foot on the accelerator, so that more Australian women can access work that is flexible, fair, and meaningful,” said Rizvi.

Ruello said “I am honoured to join Helen McCabe and Jamila Rizvi, to establish, develop and lead this new employer partnerships division at Future Women. I look forward to contributing to the next stage of the company’s impressive growth by building partnerships with leading corporate and government organisations that are serious about making work actually work for Australian women.

Future Women’s award-winning podcast, There’s No Place Like Home, returns for a second season

Award-winning podcast returns, to ask: would you notice the red flags of an abusive relationship?

FW’s award-winning podcast There’s No Place Like Home returns for a second season to uncover the early signs of abusive relationships. Interweaving real life stories from victim-survivors with the testimony of experts, There’s No Place Like Home is a call to action for listeners: Would you notice the red flags in your, or a loved one’s, relationship?

In the new series, launching on Tuesday 11 July 2023, audiences will meet eight victim-survivors who have generously shared their own experiences. Through the lens of their stories, There’s No Place Like Home explores the most common forms of non-physical abuse, including surveillance, gaslighting, love-bombing and financial abuse.

“In this season of There’s No Place Like Home victim-survivors and their loved ones share harrowing stories of a kind of abuse that is too often dismissed or disbelieved,” says FW founder and Managing Director, Helen McCabe.

“Abuse doesn’t always look like cuts or bruises. In fact we know from evidence that when a woman is murdered by her intimate partner, it is often the first time that person has behaved violently towards her”.

There’s No Place Like Home is hosted by Tarang Chawla whose own sister Nikita was murdered by her husband in 2015. Episodes explore what non-physical abuse looks like, what it feels like, and – most importantly – what to do if you suspect it’s happening to you or someone you care about.

Statistically, an estimated eight million Australians will have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from the age of 15. One in every four women, and one in thirteen men, have experienced partner violence. And based on analysis in 2015, violence against women in Australia costs our country more than $22 billion every year.

“Right now there are countless Australians out there who are worried something isn’t right in their relationship or the relationship of someone they love,” says Future Women’s Deputy Managing Director and series producer Jamila Rizvi.

“There’s No Place Like Home is a resource – backed by the advice of experts – that will mean more of us are able to recognise the patterns of power and control that underpin abusive behaviour.”

There’s No Place Like Home is a Future Women collaboration with Commonwealth Bank, which is supporting long-term financial independence for victim-survivors of financial abuse through CommBank Next Chapter.

“We are pleased to be supporting a second season of There’s No Place Like Home to help more Australians understand and acknowledge the many forms that domestic and family violence can take,” says CommBank Group Executive, Human Resources, Sian Lewis.

“Financial abuse is one of the most common forms of domestic violence and coercive control in Australia. CommBank Next Chapter is here to help end this abuse and support people on their road to long-term financial independence”.

There’s No Place Like Home articulates FW and CommBank’s vision for an Australian future in which domestic and family violence has been eradicated.

There’s No Place Like Home episodes will be released weekly from Tuesday 11 July 2023.

Media opportunities:

Several victim-survivors featured in this podcast are available for TV, radio and print interviews and can be publicly identified. Other survivors can be interviewed under pseudonyms without revealing their identity.

Alex Bunton – Canberra
Alex is a professional Australian basketballer who met her perpetrator at the height of her career: she had just won a World Cup silver medal with the Opals but was in a vulnerable place personally, having had 11 knee surgeries and knowing that soon she’d have to retire. When she fell pregnant to her perpetrator and the violence escalated, she knew she had to leave. The tippling point was when her partner drained their bank account on her birthday. Alex can speak to love bombing, isolation, gaslighting, financial abuse and being a person in the public spotlight who has experienced abuse.

*Stacey (not her real name) – Melbourne
Stacey* is a victim-survivor who is now training to work in the family violence sector. She met her perpetrator when she was 20 years old and they have children together. Her abuse was exacerbated by her perpetrator’s addiction to alcohol and then to ice. Stacey can speak to financial abuse and abuse through the court system as well as surveillance and tech-facilitated abuse including email hacking and doctored photos.

Sue and Lloyd Clarke – Brisbane
Lloyd and Sue Clarke are the parents of Hannah Clarke and the grandparents of Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey, who were murdered by Hannah’s husband, the children’s father, in February of 2020. They campaign to HALT (these initials stand for Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey) domestic violence in this country, primarily by building awareness around coercive control through their Small Steps 4 Hannah Foundation. They can speak to jealousy, technological surveillance, and the impact of non-physical abuse on broader family. They make the point that they too were victims of Hannah’s killer’s coercive control.

Helen McCabe (Future Women’s Founder and Managing Director) Jamila Rizvi (Future Women’s Deputy Managing Director) and family violence experts are also available to speak.

150 not out for Ray Hadley! Historic record ratings streak

Legendary broadcaster, Ray Hadley, has today celebrated an historic 150th consecutive ratings win – one of the longest winning streaks of all time.

Today’s ratings from Gfk Survey 4 saw The Ray Hadley Morning Show record a 17 share, up 1.5 points – solidifying Hadley’s dominance as Sydney’s No.1 live and local broadcaster for more than 19 years. His unbeaten streak started in Survey 4, 2004.

On this significant milestone, Ray Hadley said: “In the greater scheme of things it’s not the most important story I’ll deal with today but it’s gratifying and means I’ve been number one since mid-2004. Let’s hope for 151!”

Managing Director of Nine Radio, Tom Malone, said: “Ray Hadley is a once in a lifetime broadcaster who is unmatched in versatility and work ethic. Ray’s loyalty to his listeners and their welfare is the cornerstone of his success. He deserves every success.”

Hadley remains the most decorated radio host in Australian Commercial Radio Award (ACRA) history, with 33 awards and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.

After 19 successful years broadcasting at 2UE, Hadley joined 2GB in late 2001 and on 4th March 2002, The Ray Hadley Morning Show first went to air. Hadley is also the founding member of The Continuous Call Team (CCT) which re-shaped sports radio shows, and remains unbeaten since 1992.

He still calls rugby league for 2GB and his tally includes thousands of NRL games, 33 Grand Finals and tomorrow night he will call his 96th State of Origin.

The murder of Lyn Dawson

Uncover the full story of Lynette Dawson’s disappearance when the true-crime series The Murder of Lyn Dawson premieres this Sunday at 8pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

In January 1982, when Lynette Dawson, a loving mother and wife, vanished, her husband, Christopher Dawson, claimed that she had called him and told him she needed time away. While almost everyone, including the police, believed his story, those closest to Lynette knew it didn’t add up and that she would have never abandoned her two little girls.

Over two Sunday nights, this special program presents revelations about the 40-year fight for justice by those who never wavered in their belief that Lynette didn’t walk out on her family.

The Murder of Lyn Dawson is told through Chris and Lyn’s daughter Shanelle, the detective who helped bring Dawson to justice, Damian Loone, and the determined reporter who put the case in the spotlight with his viral podcast The Teacher’s Pet, Hedley Thomas.

At the heart of the series is Shanelle Dawson, as she realises that what she has been told her whole life is a lie, and her journey towards the truth: that her mother loved her and would never have left on her own free will. In embracing this reality, Shanelle must also come to terms with the fact that her beloved father is a liar and a murderer.

A mixture of archival imagery, recreations, news sources and interviews pieces together the case from the time Lynette went missing to the remaining unanswered question: where is her body? And will Dawson ever admit to his awful crimes?

THE MURDER OF LYN DAWSON
BEGINS SUNDAY, JULY 9, AT 8.00PM ON CHANNEL 9 & 9NOW

Block, rattle & roll

Get ready, Australia. The country’s No. 1 renovation reality program is just around the corner and promises to be the most electrifying yet.

In 2023 The Block celebrates an incredible 19th season and viewers are set to be treated to a blockbuster series like no other.

The mother of all reality programs continues to reinvent itself and this year’s series promises a number of exciting firsts.

State versus state rivalry will be ignited as our five couples will each be flying the flag for their homeland states of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

And in a move set to push our contestants to the brink, all teams will be given the arduous task of creating secondary accommodation on their properties. While adding value and something special to each home, will the extra workload be enough to tip one of our couples over the edge?

Set in the family-friendly suburb of Hampton East, this year’s series of the multi Logie Award winning program features five houses designed and built in the 1950s. Located on the aptly named Charming Street, these grand old dames are now aged in their 70s and are overdue for a contemporary update. Will our fresh-faced Blockheads be up to the challenge?

The five couples in contention for Block glory are:

  • Personal assistant Eliza (37) and integration producer Liberty Paschke (34) – sisters from VIC
  • Firefighter Kyle (36) and teaching aide Leslie Cottone (34) – parents from WA
  • First aid officer Leah (32) and builder Ash Milton (38) – parents from QLD
  • Project manager Kristy (34) and safety officer Brett Beams (34) – married from SA
  • Architect Steph (27) and start-up worker Gian Ottavio (27) – married from NSW

Gold Logie-winning host Scott Cam, back for his 17th series of The Block, is promising a series like no other.

“This series is guaranteed to be a dead-set blockbuster,” he said.

“Our five new teams from across the country are all fired up to make their home states proud. But wait until you see their shock when they find out they’re building not one, but two new abodes, as we throw in a granny flat for good measure. And in a Block first, this year we give all teams their full building schedule ahead of time. Buckle up, Australia. The Block 2023 offers more twists, turns and curve-balls than ever before.”

Scott’s co-host Shelley Craft agrees that this year’s time warp back to the 1950s will provide plenty of surprises along the journey.

“This series’ houses may seem charming on the surface, but our contestants will be in for a shock as they uncover a host of pitfalls not evident upon first inspection,” she said.

“While there are plenty of laughs to be had, viewers can expect an equal number of tears.”

Plus, for the first time in over a decade, a new judge joins Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Neale Whitaker.

Real estate expert, Marty Fox, who has sold two houses on The Block before – Harry and Tash’s in Brighton in 2020, and Rachel and Ryan’s in Gisborne in 2022 – will tag-team judging on Sunday nights as Neale partly steps back this season.

This year The Block also celebrates 20 years since the first series in Bondi went to air and changed the Australian television landscape forever.

Executive Producer Julian Cress, who created the show with fellow EP David Barbour, says the 20-year birthday is a fantastic achievement.

“We thought we were pretty lucky to get the show on air in the first year we made it,” he said

“Just getting The Block commissioned was a huge achievement and there is no way we thought we would still be here making the show 20 years later.

“But the great thing about it is we all still love making the show, and no two series of The Block are ever the same, as these five new teams will truly prove this year!”
