Bledisloe Cup live and free on Channel 9 and 9Now

The Eddie Jones era continues the chase for its first big scalp when the underdog Wallabies try to break their 21-year Bledisloe Cup drought against the All Blacks at the MCG, this Saturday night from 7.30pm on Channel 9HD.

SATURDAY NIGHT 7.30PM FROM THE MCG
STREAMING AD-FREE IN 4K UHD ON STAN SPORT

As tough as the task may appear, the Wallabies had a victory over the All Blacks stolen in the opening game of the series in Melbourne last year, following a dubious refereeing decision.

The star-studded All Blacks remain the gold standard in the international arena and will be showing Australia no mercy on their way to the Rugby World Cup in September.

Jones has made a raft of team changes to the Wallabies line up for the MCG fixture, where the Wallabies points scoring will depend on outside backs Marika Koroibete, rising star Mark Nawaqanitawase and Andrew Kellaway plus the new halves combination of Carter Gordon and Tate McDermott.

In commentary for Nine’s Wide World of Sports are Wallabies legends Tim Horan, Drew Mitchell and Justin Harrison, All Blacks dual World Cup winner Sonny Bill Williams, former international Morgan Turinui, caller Sean Maloney, hosts Nick McArdle and Michael Atkinson, plus dual international Allana Ferguson on the panel.

Nine’s premium podcasts deliver largest monthly audience

Last month, the Nine Podcast Network posted its largest ever monthly Audience with over 1.8 million listeners in June 2023, topping the previous monthly high in May 2023 with an additional 160,000 listeners.

Australia’s leading investigative podcast, the Kennedy Award nominated Hannah’s Story, continues to resonate with listeners, jumping 30 spots to #15 most listened to Australian podcast in June 2023 podcast ranker. As confronting as this story is, listeners have tuned in to hear more about coercive control – from the relationship, to the crime, through to the coronial inquest examining the events that lead up to the shocking and heartbreaking story of the murder of Hannah Clarke and her three young children.

Nine Radio’s catch up podcast continues to prove that on-demand is in-demand with over 820,000 listeners in June 2023, a 35% increase on the same period last year, as listeners tune into their favourite radio show where and when they choose. 2GB’s Ben Fordham Live podcast, jumped up 18 placed to #18 on June 2023’s Podcast ranker, with over 200,000 monthly listeners tuning in for their daily dose of agenda setting news and opinion. 3AW’s Drive with Tom Elliott podcast continues to steadily grow its audience, with over 75,000 listeners, up 68% YoY.

Nine’s original podcast slate continues to inform and inspire Australians, with premium, engaging and thought-provoking podcasts. The diverse brands, platforms and content across Nine continue to embrace the power of storytelling, with three exciting new podcasts launching this month.

As the home of the NRLW, Nine’s commitment to growing the 2023 season includes a brand new weekly podcast, NRLW Weekly, hosted dual international, Ruan Sims and one of the leading voices on women’s sport, Marlee Silva. NRLW Weekly brings fans the latest updates, insights, and exclusive interviews from the electrifying world of the National Rugby League Women’s competition

Sarah-Jane Calleja and Rachel Carr quickly became fan favourites on The Block last year, with their quick wit, trademark humour and raw authenticity. They bring that same electric dynamic  to their brand new podcast I Just Can’t as they discuss the rollercoaster of life – marriage, motherhood, melodramatic TV, nothing is off limits. Raw yet ruthless, vulnerable and sometimes a little vulgar, nothing is too ‘taboo’ for these two as they’ll have you switching between heartfelt tears to laughter-induced bellyaches in the blink of an eye.

With a career spanning four decades, WAtoday journalist, morning presenter on 6PR’s and four-time Western Australian Journalist of the Year, Gary Adshead has stood on the frontlines of journalism, tackling a vast array of Western Australia’s most notorious stories, from murder investigations and national espionage to heroic rescues and missing person cases. In the gripping new podcast The Reporter Gary will take listeners behind the headlines, offering a unique glimpse into the life of a reporter.

Nine’s Head of Podcasts, Mia Stern, said: “It’s been fantastic to see our podcast audience hit new milestones each and every month as we focus on scaling a curated content slate of premium, local Australian podcasts. The intimate relationship between the host and the listener delivers an unrivalled opportunity for marketers to build a powerful connection with future customers.”

Nine Radio streaming into the future!

Nine’s talk radio stations are streaming well ahead of the pack and into the future with shares double that of their nearest competitors in key markets, according to the latest GFK Radio360 ratings, and one in two listeners exclusively tuning in via a connected device.

Survey 4 showed Nine’s commercial streaming share was 25.7% – the clear No.1, with the competitive Sydney and Melbourne markets dominating; 2GB posting a commercial streaming share of 28.7%, and 29.4% for 3AW^.

Nine’s Head of Content, Greg Byrnes, said: “There’s no doubt the future of streaming is talk radio as more digital listeners search for live and local content. And with talk radio, it’s unmissable and unskippable.”

Nine’s Commercial Director for Digital Audio, Esther Carlsen, said Nine’s success is built on its distinct advantage. “We are seeing that time spent listening is exceptionally strong when streaming Nine’s talk stations. We are almost triple our nearest music competitor. It’s a huge endorsement of our live and local strategy, building trust and loyalty with listeners as the unrivalled destination of news, sport, business and traffic.

“Furthermore, Radio 360 enables us to profile our digital listeners and this clearly shows our digital listeners are skewing younger. And our catch up podcasts with over 820,000 listeners, have only a 5% audience overlap with our broadcast listeners, offering a significant  reach extension for our advertisers.”

Gfk Survey 4 showed 35.6% of Nine’s live streaming audience is under the age of 40 67% of podcasting audience under the age of 40, and 26% of 25-54s are listening via a connected device^^.

Nine’s Director of Sales for Total Audio, Ashley Earnshaw, said: “Nine has a huge opportunity for advertisers across both digital streaming and podcasts. Given the significant audiences listening across our digital formats, this allows brands to enhance data targeting at scale, given the volume of inventory. Our scale in digital also helps brands develop deeper total audio strategies or target contextually – for example, there has never been a better time to tap into passionate AFL and NRL sport fans across Nine’s digital audio platforms.”

Five charming 1950 homes set to be unveiled

Get ready, Australia. The Block, the number one renovation reality program, returns for an incredible 19th season on Sunday, August 6, at 7.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Set in the family-friendly Melbourne suburb of Hampton East, the new series features five houses designed and built in the 1950s and located on the aptly named Charming Street. These grand old dames are now aged in their 70s and way overdue for a contemporary update.

For the first time in Block history, host Scott Cam will be providing contestants with the full renovation schedule ahead of time this season. So get your cameras out, Blockheads, it’s photo time.

Adding to the year of Block firsts and amping up the stakes at play during the 48-hour House Decider Challenge, contestants will be seeing all finished designs of the houses on Day 1. Who will prevail and get the house of their choice?

Not only will they get the schedule and designs up front, but in another first, they’ll receive their entire budgets as well.

However, the Blockheads will soon find out that it’s not all smooth sailing when renovating an original 1950s home – structural issues, extreme weather events, and a mountain of demolition will test our five keen couples every step of the way.

Plus, The Block’s state-versus-state rivalry will be amplified by the sheer closeness of the houses this year. Who knew being able to peak into your neighbours builds would cause such tension?

The couples in contention are: sisters Eliza and Liberty Paschke (personal assistant, 37, and integration producer, 34, VIC); parents Kyle and Leslie Cottone (firefighter, 36, and teaching aide, 34, WA); parents Leah and Ash Milton (first aid officer, 31, and builder, 36, QLD); married couple Kristy and Brett Beames (project manager, 34, and safety officer, 34, SA); and newlyweds Steph and Gian Ottavio (architect, 27, and start up worker, 27, NSW).

Real estate expert Marty Fox isn’t the only new addition to the lineup this season. The formidable foremen Keith Schleiger and Dan Reilly will be joined on site with the fan favourite from last year, Tom Calleja.

The nation fell in love with Tom and his wife Sarah-Jane because of their work ethic and relatable marital bickering, and he jumped at the chance to work with Scotty and come back as this year’s official Block plumber.

The designs of the amazing homes in this series again come from The Block’s resident architect, Julian Brenchley.

At stake is $100,000 for the overall winner of The Block, on top of any profit the five couples can all make on the critical auction day. Plus bragging rights for the winners’ state.

Since premiering on Channel 9 in 2003, Australia’s richest reality program has awarded a total of $32,592,807.65 in prizemoney.

Brands to experience a powerful platform for engagement on Nine: the home of live and free NRLW

As the home of the NRLW, Nine’s commitment to growing the 2023 season – which kicks off this Saturday – will see all 48 games screened live and free, a dedicated weekly women’s rugby league show and brand integration spread across an unrivalled Total TV, Total Audio and Total Publishing landscape.

Featuring market-leading and innovative live-in-play Total TV opportunities for brands that only Nine can deliver, the NRLW provides a powerful platform for brands to connect with one of the fastest growing elite sports in Australia. The 9Network and 9Now will screen more than 100 hours of this season’s NRLW live and free.

With the globally-renowned Wide World of Sports team producing a dedicated weekly women’s league show, NRLW Wrap, hosted by former Jillaroos Ruan Sims and Allana Ferguson, and Emma Lawrence, the program will complement the 11-week season. Ruan, Emma and Allana will also feature in the NRLW-specific commentary team alongside Roosters captain Millie Boyle, newcomer Marlee Silva and WWOS’ Danika Mason. There will also be a dedicated podcast NRLW WEEKLY.

As teams finalise preparations before this weekend’s kickoff, sponsors and partners of Nine’s broadcast can be revealed, with five of Nine’s NRL home and away season sponsors – Harvey Norman, Telstra, McDonald’s, Westpac and Chemist Warehouse – extending their commitment into the NRLW.

Creative brand integration will enhance the broadcast, including a new half-time Chemist Warehouse & Ostelin ‘Strong Moment’ which will celebrate inspirational moments of strength from the first half. Westpac will help launch their NRLW sponsorship by bringing their Red Zone integration to Nine’s coverage, helping unpack all of the action from the attacking 20 metres for fans at home.

“The NRLW has proven itself an elite competition featuring the world’s best female rugby league players and athletes. It has been fantastic to see our partners get behind the expanded season as the women’s game is supercharged to new heights. I can’t wait to watch this exciting new chapter and evolution of women’s sport in Australia across the Total TV screens of Nine,” said Matthew Granger, Nine’s Director of Sales – Sport, Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Nine’s Director of Content Partnerships – Sport, Olympic and Paralympic Games, Anne Gruber, said: “Since the NRLW first hit our screens, the competition has gone from strength to strength and this year Nine is proud to support the biggest evolution of the sport and allow brands the opportunity to leverage this incredible platform. Our suite of marketing solutions, talent and expertise positions Nine as the new Home of NRLW,” Gruber said.

The NRLW kicks off this Saturday, July 22 live and free on Channel 9 and 9Now. Every NRLW game will be available to stream anywhere at any time on 9Now
