60 Minutes Presents: Our Heroes of Paris

60 Minutes Presents: Our Heroes of Paris features extensive post-competition interviews with many of the Aussie titans, as Brown reveals what has driven the athletes to greatness and why the Olympic Games are unlike any other sporting event in the world.

From the triumphs of swimming champs including Ariarne TitmusKaylee McKeown and Cam McEvoy to the fairy-tale victories of sisters, Jessica and Noémie Fox; from our world-beating BMX, road racing and velodrome cyclists to Australia’s young skateboarding superstars; our smashing tennis doubles team, pole-vaulting gold medallist, and tactically-brilliant dinghy sailor, Paris 2024 has shown over and over again that when it comes to the Olympics, Australia punches far beyond its weight.

In a series of intimate interviews, Our Heroes of Paris applauds the determination of our athletes and recognises the sacrifices they’ve made to represent their country with such distinction.  As Tara Brown finds out, their will to succeed is in fact so formidable, it’s really no surprise Paris 2024 has become Australia’s most successful Olympic Games ever.

Olympic Games Paris 2024: Day 15 schedule highlights

In Australia’s most successful Olympics ever, the Stingers will be first up to add to our record gold medal tally when they meet Spain in the final of the Women’s water polo.

After defying the odds in a miraculous penalty shoot out victory over the USA, the Stingers will need to keep riding their wave of momentum when they go into the game as underdogs.

At Stade de France, Jess Hull has her eyes on the prize in the Women’s 1500m Final, when she aims to become the first Australian since Herb Elliott in 1960 to win Olympic 1500m gold.

Steph Curry and Lebron James will suit up for Team USA in the Men’s gold medal match against home nation France, whose hopes sit on the shoulders of 20-year-old NBA No.1 draft pick, Victor Wembanyama.

Curry ran hot in their semi final against Serbia, dropping 36 points on the way to sealing a famous comeback victory. His dream team of NBA superstars are now out to complete their mission and go down in history as one of the greatest basketball teams ever assembled.

The Men’s Marathon will kick off the action on an exciting Day 15, when team sport gold medals will also be awarded for Men’s Volleyball and Women’s Football.

The Cowboys will take on the Eels at 12.00pm, with Cowboys winger Jakiya Whitfeld aiming to add to her try-double in Round 2. And can Eels centre Rory Owen, who scored in her first two appearances, back it up for Round 3?

Then it’s a Sunshine State showdown between the Broncos and Titans. The Broncos, chasing their first win of the season, are without Brianna Clarke, who is serving a two-match suspension for a shoulder charge. The undefeated Titans will field an unchanged featuring superstar centre Jamie Chapman, who has 12 tries under her belt from her past eight games.

NRL Round 23: finals in the spotlight

On Thursday Night Footy at Accor Stadium, the ladder-leading Storm clash with an injury-ravaged Rabbitohs team battling to avoid their 13th loss of the season. The return of halfback Cody Walker will boost the Bunnies, while the Storm will be ruthless in rebounding from a surprise loss to the Dragons. With new winger Grant Anderson in exceptional try-scoring form, the Storm will look to rack up the points for another win as they chase the minor premiership.

In the local derby on Friday Night Footy, the Eels face the second-placed Panthers. The Eels, determined to finish the season strongly, are fielding the same team that upset the Warriors in Round 22.
