The Australian Financial Review is building on the success of its luxury magazine portfolio with two new supplements and insertion on a new day of the week.
Fin Magazine, the Financial Review’s quarterly lifestyle glossy, will move from Friday’s newspaper to the Saturday edition in 2024. The Financial Review’s editor of magazines, Matthew Drummond, said the shift reflected the increased readership of AFR Weekend in print, up 67 per cent year-on-year in the June quarter according to Roy Morgan.
“Saturdays are the perfect day to reach readers when they’re looking for sumptuous and inspirational lifestyle content,” Mr Drummond said. “This move will enable Fin Magazine to stand out even more from the pack; it will be Australia’s only glossy newspaper-inserted magazine that’s purely focused on luxury and travel that’s published on a Saturday.”
Fin Magazine’s Spring issue, out August 18 inside the Financial Review, featuring Chateau de Gudanes, Troye Sivan, Paul Bangay and Pip Edwards.

While Fin Magazine will shift to Saturdays in 2024, Mr Drummond said there would be no change to the publishing schedule of AFR Magazine. “Since its first issue in 1995, AFR Magazine has been published on the last Friday of the month,” he said. “While readers are in the habit of looking out for AFR Magazine on a Friday, we think Fin Magazine, with its seasonal publishing schedule, is better suited to the weekend.”
AFR High Flyer
The March issue of AFR Magazine will include a new travel supplement that will be an indispensable guide to choosing which airline to fly first class, business class, or premium economy. AFR High Flyer will be an annual guide in print and will be regularly updated on afr.com. It will be helmed by the Financial Review’s travel editor, Fiona Carruthers.
“AFR High Flyer will be a comparative one-stop shop of information tailored to the Australian market,” Ms Carruthers said. “Readers can use it to better assess which airlines, routes, transit lounge offerings, frequent flyer programs and hotel loyalty programs suit them best, whether they are travelling for business, leisure, bleisure or to pick up a cruise.”

Nine’s talk radio stations have launched the next round of the highly successful internship program, designed to discover and mentor the next generation of radio professionals.
The six-week internships are offered at each station: Sydney’s 2GB, Melbourne’s 3AW, Brisbane’s 4BC and 6PR in Perth, and are paid positions, with the opportunity to lead to employment.
Now in its fifth round, the program provides interns with invaluable hands-on experience across a broad range of skills, including radio production, broadcasting, journalism and social media. They will also benefit from a comprehensive understanding of what it’s like to work in a leading radio and audio business, with support from some of the best talent in the industry.
Tom Malone, Managing Director of Nine Radio, said: “Nine’s radio and audio internship program has unearthed some exceptional talent within the industry – from a range of different backgrounds – and I can’t wait to see who we discover next.”

I loved the hands-on nature of the internship as it helped me develop and polish my skills.”
Former intern, Juliet Rayner, said: “In pursuing an internship with 2GB, I was awarded a safe space to learn and grow, whilst also being paid – a very rare opportunity in the Australian media landscape. While I moved between teams weekly, I had constant contact with my supervisor, who ensured I was connected to the new team and had all the information I needed before starting each week. I never once felt like my role was to grab coffees or sit quietly in the corner. I was encouraged and given incredible opportunities for continued work with 2GB which I am very grateful for.”
This is the second of three internship rounds that will run in 2023. Applications close on 18 August, with successful applicants commencing in mid-September.

The Hundred with Andy Lee tackles the big weekly talking points in a funny and irreverent way. Whatever story has gripped the nation each week, we will be able to find out what Australia really thinks about it. There will also be a host of brave famous faces who will “Face The Hundred” to see just how many people can put a name to the face – there is nowhere to hide and pride is on the line!
Comedian Mike Goldstein and media personality Sophie Monk will serve as regular panellists in 2023. A selection of the country’s finest comedians will round out the trio to share their take on the hot topics at hand. They include Tom Gleeson, Luke McGregor, Kate Langbroek and Joel Creasey.
“The results are in – this season of The Hundred is our best yet. Ninety-two per cent of me is thrilled to be working alongside Andy and Mike again, which is a pretty big percentage,” Sophie said.
In the first episode we’ll find out how many of our Hundred have seen their neighbours naked and what percentage have been arrested overseas. We’ll discover how common it is to forget a partner’s birthday and see just how many can recognise television personality and landscaper extraordinaire Jamie Durie, when he arrives to “Face The Hundred”.
Andy said: “I cannot wait to get into season five alongside Mike Goldstein and Sophie Monk. We’ve got a whole new bunch of stats and games to play, but I’m mostly looking forward to hearing someone overshare about how they shouldn’t have slept with someone that wasn’t their husband on their wedding day … or something like that.”
