Ray Hadley to call 7th Olympics and 100th State of Origin as part of new deal with Nine

Legendary talk radio host and sports broadcaster, Ray Hadley, has agreed to terms with Nine to extend his broadcasting career until the end of 2026.

Hadley, who has won every ratings survey since 2004 – 148 in a row – and is the founding member of The Continuous Call Team – now in its 37th year – will continue to host his Number 1  show, The Ray Hadley Morning Show for another three and a half years.

The extension means Ray will commentate at his 7th Olympic Games, when Paris stages the world’s biggest sporting event next year, and he will also notch up 100 State of Origin calls during 2025 – an unmatched record by any television or radio broadcaster.

Nine Radio Managing Director, Tom Malone, said: “We are delighted that Ray is committing to broadcast his Number 1 show for another 3 years, call Rugby League, and commentate at the Olympics. Ray is a broadcaster of unmatched work ethic and likely never to be repeated success.”

“I want to thank him for his great loyalty to 2GB. Every day at 9am our listeners, right across Australia, tune in for Ray’s take on the day’s news and sport, as he sets the national agenda and provides great laughter and entertainment along the way.”

Ray Hadley said: “After sitting down with Tom Malone over an extended period, and then gaining the support of my wife Sophie, I decided to accept an offer to extend my current deal. Nine Radio is an exciting place to broadcast and I’m looking forward to the next three years as much as I’ve enjoyed the past 22 years at 2GB. I’m also excited to be back at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 – my 7th Olympics – and again, I’ll be the lead commentator at the swimming and track and field.”

“My life balance is wonderful these days thanks to my wife, my children, my grandchildren and the management of Nine Radio.”

Shining brightly at the top of the table, the Brisbane Broncos head south to Melbourne for Thursday Night Footy where they’ll have to fight their way through the Storm, who have not lost to the Broncos at AAMI Park since 2016.

East meets west on Friday Night Footy when the Roosters travel to the premiership- winning Panthers den in Penrith, out to claim a big scalp in a return to top form.

Aggressive powerhouse forwards James Fisher-Harris and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will collide, setting a spectacle of their own at the foot of the mountains, while the influence of Roosters fullback James Tedesco and Panthers playmaker Nathan Cleary shapes the outcome of the contest.

Sunday Arvo Footy features the battle of Sydney’s beaches between the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and Cronulla Sharks.

Sharks playmaker and NSW State of Origin hopeful Nicho Hynes gets a shot at taking on Queensland and Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, in an encounter featuring Nine experts and Origin coaches Billy Slater and Brad Fittler in commentary from 3.00pm.

Scott and Owen win first ever LEGO® Masters Grand Masters

Larrikin best mates from Western Australia, Scott and Owen, were tonight crowned the worthy winners of LEGO® Masters Grand Masters on Channel 9.

The impressively creative duo won $100,000 and the coveted title of the first ever LEGO® Masters Grand Masters champions.

In tonight’s Grand Finale the remaining three teams were given 28 hours to build whatever they wanted to. And they didn’t disappoint with the most impressive builds in LEGO® Masters history.

Alongside the other Grand Masters contestants and 200 members of the public, judge Ryan “Brickman” McNaught and host Hamish Blake – who had half a vote – determined the winners of Grand Masters 2023.

For Scott and Owen it was redemption after finishing second in their previous season of LEGO® Masters. Whilst they triumphed over Alex and Caleb and Joss and Henry, Brickman was hugely impressed by all three finalists, but Scott and Owen clearly deserved the crown. After nearly cracking under the pressure in Sunday’s Carousel elimination challenge, they bounced back with a vengeance.

Scott and Owen were inspired by the Grand Finale creations of past winners to make Titan Atlas. Their mighty Titan, a figure from Greek mythology, holds a giant city above his head as he stumbles through sheets of rock above a sea of lava. Using a technique called implied motion, they captured the moment of Atlas falling and trying to keep hold of the city with no supporting mechanism.

Joss and Henry, previous winners of LEGO® Masters, stretched their creativity and took a huge risk with their final build. They created a fantasy world: the serene and captivating Forest Guardian and the Traveller, where a traveller stumbles into a peaceful forest, greeted by the guardians of the woods.

The third pairing, Caleb and Alex, runners up in Season 4, impressed with their humorous character build, capped by King of the Jungle, a huge lion wearing a crown and sitting on a throne with other animals offering gifts to the imposing jungle leader.

Scott said: “The whole Lego® Masters experience has been an absolutely mind blowing and heart filling experience. We gave this competition and our final build everything we had, we hope everyone loved being with us along this journey. To come away with the win in this level of competition has left me speechless, so I’ll just say thanks. Firstly, to all the crew, big thanks for all of your help at keeping us grounded along the way, to all the contestants past and present, thank you for your love and to everyone at home for tuning in, thank you.”

Owen said: “We knew going in that the level of the final builds would be above and beyond anything we’d seen yet. This put us into an all or nothing mindset, to try for something ridiculous both creatively and technically in an effort to stand out. This meant a load of risks, many sleepless nights and hopefully an entertaining watch for all at home. In the end all the risks paid off and I could not be prouder of the legacy we have now left on the competition.”

Brickman said: “There’s always a big risk in naming a series “Grand” masters, as you’re relying on the competitors to really bring skills and techniques that have never been seen before, and gosh were lucky, because they did that and more, none more so than our Winners, Scott and Owen who were huge risk takers and really did live up to the hype”.

LEGO® Masters: Grand Masters comes from producers Endemol Shine Australia (a Banijay Company). The series is adapted from an original UK format from Tuesday’s Child Productions and The LEGO® Group.

SATURDAY NIGHT STORM V RABBITOHS

First up, on Friday Night Footy the Brisbane Broncos hope to make Suncorp Stadium a “house of Payne” when giant prop Payne Haas returns to face the Manly Sea Eagles.

The Sea Eagles are back in Turbo mode with injury-plagued superstar fullback Tom Trbojevic returning in an attempt to hit top gear on the run to the State of Origin series. However, he’ll have to deal with Brisbane’s Reece lightning, boom fullback Reece Walsh, who’ll be out own the limelight with another electric performance.

The “Trellmit” train driven by Latrell Mitchell with his Rabbitohs teammates onboard rolls into Suncorp for Saturday Night Footy, steaming up against an ominous Melbourne Storm outfit fresh off the bye.

The Rabbitohs are in red-hot form and have dismantled teams in their four-week winning run, which ironically began after a loss to the Storm in Round 5. Will revenge be served up by the Bunnies or will Cameron Munster and Harry Grant work their own magic once again?

Stars align in brand-new showbiz series with Richard Wilkins

Nine today announced a brand-new digital-exclusive series featuring Entertainment Editor Richard “Dickie” Wilkins.

Dickie’s Diaries is a new video series exclusive to 9Honey, featuring the very best celebrity memories and moments from Wilkins’ four decades at Nine, told candidly in his engaging style.

With his experience from interviewing the biggest stars, being on the red carpet of the biggest events, and attending the biggest concerts in the world, Wilkins has some incredible stories to tell – and for the first time they’ve been all captured on video and will be released weekly on 9Honey.

Look out for the interview with Madonna which took a turn he never expected; the Hugh Grant encounter that makes us cringe along with him; and the heartbreaking question he wished he’d asked and now never can. This is Wilkins at his best, raw, delightful and filled to the brim with cheeky tales.

At times hilarious and at times devastatingly sad, these are the inside stories only Wilkins has.

Wilkins said: “It’s often suggested to me that I have the best job in the business, getting to travel the world, meeting some of the biggest stars of stage and screen, hitting red carpets, visiting sound stages and studios, attending premieres and parties, and having a whole lot of fun. In the early days I tried to feign some resistance to this premise, but now I embrace it wholeheartedly.

“I’m proud of what we do and I genuinely feel blessed to find myself in this role. No two days have ever been the same and long may that continue. So with that in mind, obviously I’m more comfortable asking the questions than answering them. However I did agree to let my guard down and be grilled mercilessly by the investigative team at 9Honey, so it’s my turn to face the music.”

Nine.com.au Director Kerri Elstub said: “There’s a reason Richard Wilkins is the go-to celebrity interviewer in Australia. His knowledge, charm and humour make him the perfect person to disarm sometimes tricky celebrities.”

Watch the first episode of Dickie’s Diaries featuring Prince on 9Honey now.
