Featuring market-leading and innovative live-in-play Total TV opportunities for brands that only Nine can deliver, the State of Origin provides a powerful platform for brands to connect with one of the largest audiences of the year in a premium and engaging environment.

There is no other sporting series in Australia that so dramatically illustrates the power of ‘event streaming’, with last year’s three State of Origin games setting a record for attracting the highest Total TV audience since 2019 and becoming the most-watched live streaming event on 9Now in Australian history.

Creative and captivating brand integration will enhance the broadcast, with Universal Pictures supporting the launch of their new title The Flash via an immersive augmented reality execution created by Nine’s creative solutions division Powered. Westpac will help launch their new sponsorship of Origin and the NSW Blues by bringing their Red Zone integration to Nine’s coverage, helping unpack all of the action from the attacking 20 metres for fans at home.

Macca’s and Westpac will also use the power and scale of State of Origin to launch new brand TVCs, celebrating the power of NRL with Rugby League themed creative.

Viewers will also enjoy more insightful data during play than ever before, with a new broadcast innovation, a live-in-play fatigue alert which captures how players are physically faring in what is a gruelling kick return game.

The Telstra Tracker will return in 2023, with live, in-game statistics drawing on Catapult data to help fans understand insightful individual player data related to speed and intensity.

“The State of Origin series on Channel 9 and 9Now represents the ultimate in exclusive event television. Drive shines a spotlight on real world drivers living the electric dream

Drive TV electric vehicle feature documentary ‘Living with Electric Vehicles’ to air at 12pm Saturday 27 May on 9Network, with supporting 12-page print lift-out available in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

Drive presenters Trent Nikolic, Emma Notarfrancesco, Susannah Guthrie and James Ward meet five people who have made ‘the switch’ and follow them on their electric vehicle ownership journey. The Drive EV feature documentary and print lift-out looks at what challenges, costs and stereotypes these real-world owners have overcome to make electric vehicles integrate into their everyday lives and homes.

“If you are part of the 86 per cent of the Australian population who lives in an urban area and travel less than 100km per day, then electric vehicle ownership can absolutely work if you want it to,” said James Ward, Drive’s Director of Content.

EV ownership isn’t just restricted to the city dwellers. The electric special also looks at what it means to make the switch when one doesn’t have the luxury of big city infrastructure.

“Not all of our owners can charge at home, as our regional and high-density owners need to use the public network. And while it’s still desperately lagging, with a few considerations to how you go about your week, even this can be easy – with planning. However, the best part is it’s going to get even easier,” adds James.

According to data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, 23,926 electric vehicles have been reported as sold over the first four months of this year. This represents an increase of 214 per cent increase over the same period last year. Based on this projection, we’re set to see 70,000 new electric cars on Australian roads by the end of the year.

“Australia presents a challenging motoring landscape. While we’re still behind the likes of many countries when it comes to charging infrastructure, we’re seeing buyer confidence like never before,” said Drive TV host and Drive.com.au Managing Editor, Trent Nikolic.

“For the first time we’ve seen electric vehicles outsell the more traditional hybrid model which tells us we’re starting to see buyer decision evolve beyond traditional EV ownership barriers. Living the electric dream may just be easier than you think,” said Trent.

Recently aired on 9Network, Drive TV Season 4 featured 10 episodes dedicated to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles while celebrating the great Australian road trip. This latest feature in Drive TV’s electric vehicle suite follows on from the hugely popular EV special which aired in October 2022 – the highest rated and most streamed Drive TV episode to date.

Tune in for Drive TV ‘Living with Electric Vehicles’ at 12pm Saturday 27 May on 9Network. All previous episodes are available for streaming on 9Now: https://www.9now.com.au/drive-tv

‘Living the Electric Dream’ 12-page supplementary lift-out available in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age this Saturday 27 May.

Everything old is new again as mining and manufacturing drive the fortunes of the 40th anniversary Rich List while tech dives

  • GINA RINEHART TOPS 40TH ANNIVERSARY RICH LIST WITH WEALTH OF $37 BILLION, UP $3 BILLION
  • THE WEALTH OF THE RICHEST 200 AUSTRALIANS HAS INCREASED JUST 1% TO A RECORD $563 BILLION, THE LOWEST RATE OF GROWTH SINCE THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS.
  • AUSTRALIA HAS A RECORD 141 BILLIONAIRES, UP FROM 137
  • MIKE CANNON-BROOKES AND SCOTT FARQUHAR SLIP FROM 3RD AND 4TH PLACE TO 6TH AND 7TH. CRYPTO GAMING ENTREPRENEUR ED CRAVEN, WHO’S 27 YEARS OF AGE, DEBUTS ON THE LIST AT No35 WORTH $3 BILLION
  • NICOLE KIDMAN AND KEITH URBAN WORTH $695 MILLION AND ONLY ENTERTAINMENT NAMES ON LIST
  • YOU NEED TO BE WORTH $690 MILLION JUST TO GET ONTO THE RICH LIST

Mining magnate Gina Rinehart has topped the Financial Review Rich List for the fourth consecutive year, becoming Australia’s richest person worth a record $37.4 billion – up $3 billion from last year.

As interest rates rise and inflation hits a 30-year high, the 2023 Rich List is a tale of ‘everything old is new again’, with tech stocks and start-ups crashing, making way for the traditional wealth creators; manufacturing and mining.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Rich List, first published in BRW Magazine in 1983 when the total worth of Australia’s wealthiest people was $4.6 billion and it took just $10 million to make the list. It now takes $690 million to make the Rich List, with the collective wealth of Rich Listers totalling more than half a trillion dollars at $563 billion.

Based on the Financial Review’s unrivalled and constantly updated database, the Rich List includes nine billionaires in the elite “ten-digit club” – those with wealth exceeding $10 billion.

The number of fortunes built on technology has fallen from 27 last year to 24, and the number of manufacturers rising from 11 to 17. Atlassian’s Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar have seen their fortunes slump by 30%. They are now respectively worth $19 billion (No.6) and $18 billion (No.7).

Andrew Forrest is Australia’s second richest person, gaining $3 billion to $33.3 billion (up from $30.7 billion last year), while Anthony Pratt is in third spot, worth $24 billion. Property mogul Harry Triguboff increased his wealth to $23.8 billion, up from $21 billion, to fourth on the List. Having been on every issue of the RIch List since 1983, he appears on the cover of the special 40th anniversary issue.

Leap-frogging the Atlassian founders is Clive Palmer, whose mining royalties earn him more than $500 million a year alongside a $1.4 billion payday for his Queensland Nickel. With his fortune up 21% to $23.7 billion, Palmer is now Australia’s fifth richest person.

Ivan Glasenberg, who gained his wealth through commodity trading giant Glencore, has a wealth of $13.60 billion, up $1 billion from last year, and is now Australia’s eighth richest person.

The total wealth of Australia’s top 200 increased by just 1% from last year. In a mark of the diverging fortunes of Rich Listers, the combined wealth of the Top 10 increased by $13 billion while the combined wealth of those on the rest of the List went backwards.

Canva founders Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht, occupy ninth spot with their wealth of $13.18 down from $13.8 billion last year. Rounding out the Top 10 is titan of business Frank Lowy, who has invested shrewdly since offloading Westfield in 2018. He’s worth $9.33 billion, up marginally from last year.

Rich List editor Michael Bailey said: “Some people criticise the Rich List as a mere celebration of wealth. We prefer to see it as a celebration of the hard work and innovation that continues to deliver prosperity to Australia.

“Back in 1983, the Rich Listers were worth a combined $4.6 billion. If they’d merely parked all of that in risk-free assets, the List today would be worth a combined $15 billion. Yet here we are at $563 billion, which speaks to the entrepreneurial nous of our Rich Listers.”

The full 40th annual Rich List will be available on www.afr.com and will appear in a special edition of The Australian Financial Review Magazine in this Friday’s Financial Review. High res images of AFR Magazine Rich List cover and original BRW Rich List cover HERE

Parental Guidance returns to get Australia talking

While there is no such thing as the perfect parent, Parental Guidance will determine the parenting style that comes close when it returns for another thought-provoking season to ignite nationwide conversations on Monday, June 5, at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Building upon the phenomenal success of its first season, Parental Guidance returns with 12 new parenting styles with remarkably distinctive methods and unique approaches to parenting. The diverse range of parents will take centre stage to be unpacked, judged and scrutinised under the guidance of returning dynamic duo Ally Langdon, the esteemed host of A Current Affair, and Dr Justin Coulson, one of Australia’s most trusted parenting experts.

Each set of parents will get a taste of their own medicine when it comes to report-card results as their approach to parenting is reviewed, reacted to and discussed on the Parents’ Lounge, ultimately leading to a vote for Australia’s best style.

Faced with more tough challenges that are grounded in real-life scenarios – such as navigating the dark side of online gaming and the internet, posing for the picture-perfect family photo, defending yourself against a bully, or discussing the birds and the bees – the outcomes are authentic, joyful and shocking. From Outback to Influencer, Unstructured to Honest, Spiritual to Stage, each parenting style’s strengths and weaknesses are laid bare.

Prepared for the good, bad and ugly side of all kinds of parenthood, Ally Langdon said: “Parenting is like treading water while juggling – just when you think you’ve got the hang of it, another ball gets thrown into the mix!

“That’s why this show is so important and such a privilege to be a part of, because not only do we get the opportunity to witness some incredible people raise awesome kids, we all get to learn a thing or ten along the way.”

Dr Coulson, who outside of helping families raise strong, caring children is a father to six daughters, said: “There’s something really special about the connection between a family unit, so I’m excited to see how these twelve different dynamics respond when being put to the test.

“The beauty of this environment is that it’s safe and controlled, which allows us all to arm ourselves with knowledge and a strong sense of responsibility ahead of these scenarios playing out in real time.”

Parental Guidance is produced by Eureka Productions for the 9Network.
