3AW secures AFL rights until 2024

3AW has secured radio, streaming and digital rights to the AFL until 2024.

The two year deal will see Melbourne’s No. 1 station call four matches per week, available to listeners on 3AW 693, and for the first time through the 3AW app and website.

The new agreement will also ensure that the AFL’S biggest radio audience will now get their favourite call anywhere on any device.

The agreement includes

  • 4 matches per week, as picked by 3AW
  • All marquee games
  • All finals and the Grand Final
  • AFLW rights including a commitment for 1 x AFLW broadcast per round, Finals and the Grand Final
  • An AFLW internship to foster media talent among the playing group
  • Associated digital and streaming rights

The new deal marks the end of 3AW’s rights agreement with SEN, and ensures the only place to hear the biggest names and best opinions in footy – or advertise with them – is directly through 3AW – the home of football.

Tom Malone, Managing Director of Nine Radio, said: “Our listeners are the big winners in this new deal. It means that Melburnians will have access to 3AW’s unrivalled commentary right through until the 2024 season. Importantly, the agreement incorporates full streaming rights, giving fans the ability to tune into 3AW no matter where they are in Australia. We’re also very proud to be increasing our support for the AFLW by calling more matches and implementing our groundbreaking broadcast internship program.”

Stephen Beers, 3AW Station Manager, said: “Footy is the glue that binds Melbourne together and 3AW has a long and proud history of calling this great game. Our association dates back almost 80 years to our first broadcast of the VFL in 1944. We are a trusted voice for Melbourne fans of the AFL and we’re thrilled to be able to continue this longstanding tradition on Melbourne’s number one station.”

Mind-blowing cold cases reopen when Under Investigation returns

Monday, September 26, at 8:45pm on Channel 9 and 9Now

Australia’s living rooms will become investigative nerve centres as some of the nation’s most notorious cold cases are reopened in Under Investigation with Liz Hayes – returning Monday, September 26, at 8.45pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Mystifying crimes that have baffled police for years are put under the microscope by Liz Hayes and her new teams of experts. Viewers will be there for every twist and turn as long-hidden evidence is uncovered and new witnesses speak.

As Hayes convenes her experts at the Under Investigation War Table the first of eight gripping case files is opened: the top cop whose knowledge may have killed him. South Australian Detective Inspector Geoff “Whit” Whitford allegedly took his life on a remote beach. But this celebrated officer and loving father seemingly had little reason to commit suicide. He was, however, the head of an ultra-secret task force and had uncovered evidence of high-level police corruption. With exclusive access to a secret police file and new evidence provided by Whit’s daughter and former police officer Amanda SchultzUnder Investigation reveals a compelling case for what might have been murder. The motive? Geoff Whitford knew too much. Calls are now being made in the South Australian parliament for an independent inquiry.

In the second major investigation, Hayes and her expert team examine the mysteries of Central Queensland’s dark and deadly Flinders Highway. There have been 11 unsolved deaths and disappearances along this 800km stretch of bitumen. One was 21-year-old Tony Jones, hitchhiking between Townsville and Mount Isa as part of his “trip of a lifetime”. After making a final call to his girlfriend, Tony vanished somewhere along the highway. Mark Jones, Tony’s brother, has waged a 40-year campaign to find the person he’s convinced killed his brother. He joins the Under Investigation War Table as Tony Jones’ final moments are revealed.

Under Investigation’s case files extend to Melbourne’s extraordinary “Slug Gate” saga, the health scandal that saw a $45 million family company destroyed; and Perth’s high-profile, politically supported religious group, The Esther Foundation, where instead of rehabilitation and treatment, residents allege they were exposed to abuse and terror. Esther received millions of dollars in public grants and support from former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Under Investigation also conducts a major investigation into Sydney’s bloody gangland war where brawls, drive-by shootings, kidnappings and brazen assassinations are occurring in broad daylight.

Critically acclaimed investigative journalist and host Liz Hayes says: “Under Investigation continues to pique Australians’ curiosity for crime, but more importantly the program exposes new evidence and seeks to provide answers to unsolved crimes. Alongside the nation’s best criminal minds, it’s a privilege to be able to investigate so many new and old unsolved mysteries, and in particular give a voice to the loved ones of victims who need to be heard. Our aim is to leave no stone unturned.”

Mystifying cases are cracked in Under Investigation with Liz Hayes, returning Monday, September 26, at 8.45pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

NRL Preliminary Finals and NRLW Semi-Finals head up a huge weekend of live and free footy on Channel 9 and 9Now

Queensland hopes riding on Cowboys to beat the Eels
Panthers v Rabbitohs Grand Final rematch on Saturday
NRLW Semi-Finals and Prime Minister’s XIII in Sunday footy feast

A ticket to the big dance – the 2022 NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final – is up for grabs this weekend in two epic preliminary finals Live and Free on Channel 9HD and 9Now.

Only four teams remain: the pride of Queensland – the North Queensland Cowboys, the Parramatta Eels out to break the longest premiership drought in the NRL, the South Sydney Rabbitohs on a huge revenge mission, and the premiership powerhouse that is the Penrith Panthers.

From Friday night at 7.00pm, it’s lights, camera, action in Townsville when the Cowboys host a preliminary final for the first time in the club’s history, against an electric Eels outfit led by Mitchell Moses that is ready to shoot down their doubters and bring an end to 36 years of premiership heartache.

Written off at the start of the season, the Cowboys will have the whole state of Queensland saddling up with them to ride into the Grand Final, behind wrecking ball Jason Taumalolo and the X-factor of their superstar centre Valentine Holmes.

On Saturday night at 7.00pm, the immovable force of the Panthers, the minor premiers, meets the unstoppable force of the Rabbitohs, Latrell Mitchell, in a mouth-watering 2021 Grand Final rematch.

The Rabbitohs have a score to settle after finishing runners up, but will need to find a way to stop another halfback masterclass from Panthers playmaker Nathan Cleary.

A Sunday feast at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane will round out the weekend with four straight games, beginning with two action-packed NRLW semi-finals and the Women’s and Men’s Prime Minister’s XIII against Papua New Guinea.

As one of the world’s most enviable masthead subscription models, it has expanded into a fully integrated, cross-platform superbrand spanning print, digital, podcasts, and a market-leading summits and extensive lists business.

As the nation’s fastest growing masthead and most read subscription-only, premium business publication – with 3.5 million subscribers in print and digital – the power of the Financial Review allows brands to reach an affluent audience at scale by staying in its ecosystem longer than ever. From daily analysis and razor-sharp focus on finance, business and political news, coupled with the monthly AFR Magazine, recently launched quarterly lifestyle title Fin! Magazine and Walkley Award-winning podcasts, the Financial Review editorial ecosystem supports news-breaking events and summits, plus market-leading lists, allowing advertisers to reach key decision makers at scale.

“The Australian Financial Review is a powerhouse masthead, with the heritage of its brand, the power of its independence and its ability to be future-focused a really attractive combination for advertisers,” said Jo Clasby, Nine’s Director of Sales, Total Publishing.

“We’ve had huge success developing relevant sponsorship opportunities on topical issues such as sustainability through initiatives like our Carbon Challenge and issues facing current financial market conditions. We are finding innovative ways and means of allowing our clients to capitalise on the engaged audience of the Financial Review powerhouse.”

With innovative lists that reflect the interests of the Financial Review readership – including Sustainability Leaders, BOSS Young Executives, Best Places to Work and Most Innovative Companies, among others – as well as news-generating live events ranging from mining, banking and cryptocurrency to property, ESG and energy and climate summits, a Total Publishing proposition ensures brands can connect with Australia’s most powerful people.

With the esteemed Financial Review Rich List marking its 40th anniversary in 2023, the masthead continues to set the agenda in business and political news, and is the daily habit of successful people. “The Financial Review is coming out of the global pandemic in stronger shape, posting market-leading increases in readership, cementing our premium digital subscription model, innovating with new products such as Carbon Challenge and Fin and expanding our experienced and expert newsroom while some competitors are contracting theirs,” said Editor in chief Michael Stutchbury.
