As a roll-call of the world’s best tennis players descend on Melbourne Park for the Australian Open, a special magazine celebrating the 2024 Summer of Tennis will be published through The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald this Saturday, January 13, produced by Good Weekend. It will also appear online on these mastheads, as well as the BrisbaneTimes and WAtoday.
Tennis is a must-read for any fan of the furry yellow ball, packed with features that give a unique insight into the lives of some of the most well-known elite athletes in the world. With Australia having more male players in the Top 100 than at any time since 1998, Tennis profiles the leader of the pack, 24-year-old Alex de Minaur, who this week was the first Australian male to make the Top 10 since Lleyton Hewitt. Talking from Paris, the so-called “Demon” is frank about what it takes to get to the top – in short, endless hard work – his never-give-up attitude, and the role his tennis-player girlfriend has in keeping him there.
Elsewhere in the issue, as global conflicts dominate headlines, Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina reveals how she’s playing for much more than trophies these days, with the 25th ranked female player using the sport to shine a light on her war-torn country.
Tennisalso features stories on the new breed of Grand Slam mums, led by returning star Naomi Osaka; and the two big C’s of tennis – Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff. It also catches up with Ash Barty in Toowoomba, to see if she’s missing the professional circuit after retirement.
“We’re delighted to bring the journalistic rigour and writing chops that Good Weekend is renowned for to the sport that dominates our psyche in the second half of January,” said Good Weekend editor Katrina Strickland. “There’s so many great stories in this issue – not to mention a Tennis Quiz for die-hard fans, and recipes for snacks to make for your tennis TV viewing.”
Tennisillustrates the wide scope of Nine’s assets spanning Total Publishing, Television, Audio and Digital. Nine is uniquely placed to provide brands optimal access to the action, with an enviable media ecosystem that allows marketers to call game, set and match on their campaigns.

“As the official broadcaster of the Australian Open through to 2029, we are thrilled with the extension of our partnership into a print insert in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, as well as for online readers of those mastheads together with BrisbaneTimes and WAtoday. After receiving such positive feedback about last year’s inaugural edition, we’re looking forward to many years of brand opportunities that the Tennis magazine will provide.”

Back bigger than ever to captivate the nation again and spark conversations across Australia, 20 brave singles ready for a chance at love will embark on their journey in the experiment with all of the romance, passion, emotion and drama that ensues.
Season 11 of Married at First Sight will bring a fresh take on the series with one of the most diverse cast of brides and grooms, a more age diverse mix including our oldest ever participant, and a same sex couple. Together, these loveable, relatable, everyday couples will bare their souls in the name of love.
In 2024, MAFS will push the limits on everything viewers think they know about the series. There will be even more heart-pounding romance and highly addictive drama with twists, turns and shocks – even beyond Final Vows – and rivalries, betrayals and heartbreak that will divide friendships and rock the experiment from beginning to end. This year’s experiment will test the participants in ways they have never imagined.
Love will blossom, secrets will be revealed, bombshells will be dropped. And which couples will choose to stay or leave?
Our trio of experts will return, certified sexologist Alessandra Rampolla alongside relationship experts John Aiken and Mel Schilling, first pairing and matching our singles entering the experiment, before guiding the couples throughout their journey and putting them to the ultimate test of developing genuine and long-lasting relationships.
There will be more breathtaking weddings, deeply romantic and sizzling honeymoons both interstate and overseas, as well as the infamously dramatic and explosive dinner parties and confronting commitment ceremonies.
Also returning will be Confessions Week, Alessandra’s Intimacy Week and Home Stays, where couples will travel to meet each other’s loved ones. The popular Couples Retreat will also return, with all couples going away together to a brand new location this year.
The participants will bare all, showing their honest, relatable and vulnerable sides as they immerse themselves in this fast-tracked experiment: from facing their nerves in meeting each other for the first time at the altar, to living together and working through challenges. They will also be put under the microscope and compare the highs and lows of their relationships with their fellow couples, as well as seeking guidance from the experts, in the hope of making their own marriage a long-term success.
Since its premiere in 2015 and over the last 10 spectacular seasons, Married at First Sight has grown to become the talk of the nation, capturing millions of viewers and the hearts of Australians, sparking endless conversations and making it television’s undisputed reality TV juggernaut.
Prepare to fall in love as television’s biggest show turns up the love meter another notch in 2024 for its most spellbinding season yet.

Catch an exclusive sneak-peek episode of Australia’s newest game show, Tipping Point, this Christmas Eve at 7.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now, followed by Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight.
Tennis legend Todd Woodbridge takes on a new challenge as host of Australia’s rendition of the famous game that pushes contestants’ luck to the very edge.
The original UK format has taken the country by storm, and in 2024 Australia finally has its own version of the show that will test the wit and wisdom of contestants as they take on the mesmerising Tipping Point machine – only the second one ever made anywhere in the world.
Just like our UK counterpart, our Aussie game format comprises four rounds, but it has a few surprises along the way.
The first two rounds are all about banking as much money as possible, with the goal to win counters to play in the Tipping Point machine.
At the end of Round 2, the contestant with the least amount of money will be eliminated and the remaining two contestants will go head-to-head, again trying to bank the most amount of money to avoid elimination.
One lucky contestant will then make it to the final Jackpot round to play for $20,000. But we’ve added a twist. Todd’s secret Jackpot Temptation. Will Todd be able to tempt the contestants or will they play it safe?
Tune in on Christmas Eve at 7.00pm for an exclusive preview episode and see if the contestants can outplay the Tipping Point machine.
Rafael Nadal’s Aussie tennis summer will begin in the blockbuster Brisbane International, live and free on the 9Network from December 31 to January 7.
Nine Grand Slam champions will line up in one of the strongest fields the tournament has ever seen when Nadal features alongside Naomi Osaka, Andy Murray, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jelena Ostapenko, Victoria Azarenka, Sofia Kenin and Sloane Stephens.
Four men ranked in the top 20 will also appear, with world No.8 Holger Rune, world No.14 Grigor Dimitrov, world No.17 Ben Shelton, world No.20 Ugo Humbert, plus giant slayer Sebastian Korda.
In the women’s draw, Naomi Osaka makes her return after the birth of her daughter, with eight of the world top 20 set to compete, including former world No.1 and three-time Brisbane International champion Karolina Pliskova and world No.12 Madison Keys.
Flying the Aussie flag will be Alexei Popyrin, Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson in the men’s singles competition, along with Queensland’s Kimberly Birrell.
Nine’s Wide World of Sports tennis expert, Jelena Dokic, said: “With Rafa and Osaka both plotting their Australian Open returns, the eyes of both the sporting and tennis world will be eagerly awaiting the Brisbane International.
“After a long break it will be great to have them back on court again in Australia. They have both played the Brisbane International before and they’re former Australian Open champions, so they like our conditions.
“Expect some jaw-dropping matches and don’t be surprised to see our emerging Aussies lift on home soil for some underdog wins.”
Live and free coverage on the 9Network or to stream on 9Now will be hosted by Nick McArdle and Brett Phillips.

Wide World of Sports will open the summer of tennis with a flavour of national pride when the United Cup begins on December 29, live and free on the 9Network.
Unifying men’s and women’s play, this mixed-teams event will consist of one men’s singles match, one women’s singles match, and a mixed doubles match in each tie.
In 18 competing nations, the best players in the world will descend on Sydney and Perth for the tournament to begin their Australian Open preparation, with $10 million in prizemoney on the line.
Perth will host the men’s and women’s world No.1 players, Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and Iga Swiatek (Poland), and big-name Americans Taylor Fritz and Jess Pegula. The Aussie charge will feature Alja Tomljanovic, Storm Hunter, Alex de Minaur and John Millman.
In Sydney, Greece duo Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari will headline alongside France’s Caroline Garcia, Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, plus Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber. The finals for both sides of the draw will be played in the harbour city.
Nine’s Wide World of Sports tennis expert, Jelena Dokic, said: “There is no event that combines men’s and women’s tennis like the United Cup. Being the first major tournament of the summer, it’s alway exciting and the mixed format gives us lots of different scenarios that we don’t get in the season.
“The players love this format because you play for your country and your team. They sit on the side of the court with their teammates and it brings communication between them into the game.
“One other thing I like is that the top players don’t usually play doubles because of their busy schedules during tournaments, but here they have to for their nation to progress. This means we may see world number ones against each other, like Djokovic playing Świątek.
“The ties will come down to the mixed games, which will be incredible to watch. That’s what I‘m looking forward to the most and the fans and commentators will love it. You won’t see these games anywhere else in the world.”
The tournament commentary line up will feature Casey Dellacqua, Sam Smith, Mark Philippoussis and Wally Masur for Sydney, while Nine’s Jim Courier, Jelena Dokic and Todd Woodbridge will dissect the action in Perth.
The 9Network’s Live and free coverage will be hosted by James Bracey, Roz Kelly and Emma Lawrence across Channel 9HD and 9GemHD, with every match streamed on 9Now.
