In the first ever decider for the Women’s series, the New South Wales Sky Blues and Queensland Maroons will wage war in Townsville where the 2024 series champions will be crowned.

The Maroons saved the series with a last-gasp field goal in Game II, and veteran Queensland captain Ali Brigginshaw plus skilful backs Lauren Brown and Tamika Upton will lead the charge to lift the shield in front of the devoted Maroons faithful in Far North Queensland.

A three-game Women’s Origin series has been a long time coming, and to have so many people invested in the decider is very exciting. Queensland snatched victory from us in Newcastle last time out so we want to return the favour.”

Todd’s biggest temptation offer in Tipping Point history

This episode will showcase the game’s largest ever jackpot temptation offer from Todd.

Playing head to head are 52-year-old psychic medium and energy healer from Victoria, Simone De Haas, 73-year-old cabaret performer Yvonne Britain from South Australia, and 28-year-old community engagement officer from Victoria, Alex Jovanovski

In a heartwarming episode, Simone, supported by her family, is playing for a trip to Disneyland to honour her late daughter, Lily, who tragically died in 2017 at the age of seven. Lily’s dream was to go to Disneyland but she was too sick to get there.

Determined to make the trip to Disneyland to celebrate what would have been Lily’s 15th birthday, the spiritual healer shakes off the chakras and guides herself all the way through to the jackpot round, where Todd puts forward an offer that will make her wish come true and more.

Will Simone be tempted to take the temptation offer and fulfil her daughter’s cherished dream?

Join host and tennis legend Todd Woodbridge tomorrow night for a series first on Tipping Point Australia.

Under Investigation with Liz Hayes wins national Media Diversity Award

The award celebrates journalists who are making an outstanding contribution through their reporting on diverse people or issues in Australia, and this is the first time any commercial television network has been recognised in this category.

Shots Fired investigated one of Australia’s most contentious criminal cases, involving the shooting of Kumanjayi Walker by former Northern Territory police officer Zachary Rolfe. This tragic incident sparked national debate and scrutiny. Under Investigation revisited the events of that fateful night, providing viewers with unprecedented access to police bodycam footage, exclusive interviews with key figures, including the Crown Prosecutor, community elders, and eyewitnesses.

The episode posed critical questions about the preventability of Walker’s death and explored complex issues of justice, race and policing in First Nations communities.

Recognised by the Walkley Foundation, the judges celebrated the episode for telling a “complex story in a clear, honest and nuanced way for a broad audience. The journalism is relational, involving respected community voices and key players, using a structure that centres on listening and talking to achieve greater understanding. At a time when audiences are avoiding traditional-style adversarial news, Shots Fired stands out.”

Liz Hayes said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to be acknowledged, especially given our small yet mighty team at Under Investigation. Our mission is unwavering: to uncover the truth behind challenging and significant cases.

Shots Fired was a particularly challenging and sensitive episode for us, so receiving this award is a profound honour that truly celebrates the relentless effort and dedication of our entire team. At UI, we’re committed to leaving no stone unturned, and we’re eager to continue this important work.”

Executive Producer of UI, Gareth Harvey, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our program and our talented team. It’s an immense privilege for Under Investigation, a leader in investigative journalism programming, to be awarded with the Media Diversity Australia Award – the first time for any commercial television network.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved. Producing this program is incredibly rewarding and has a ripple effect beyond each episode, marking an even greater achievement.”

Ariarne Titmus opens up about chasing Olympic glory in a special edition of Good Weekend

One of the races of Paris 2024 is expected to be the women’s 400 metres freestyle final – held on day one of the Games. In it, if all goes to plan, Australia’s Ariarne Titmus will face up against arguably the greatest swimmer of all time, America’s Katie Ledecky. Canadian teen sensation Summer McIntosh is expected to be there on the starting blocks, too.

Dubbed ‘the race of the Century’, it will be one of the highlights of the Games for Australian audiences. With just 35 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the special edition of Good Weekend features Amanda Hooton profiling Titmus, who began her swimming life in the state with perhaps the least pools in the country, Tasmania, and was initially far from the best in her swim class – but is now one of the greatest swimmers this country has produced.

Elsewhere in this special edition, Konrad Marshall explores Australia’s sudden rise in middle-distance running talent, Chip Le Grand looks at why the Olympics in Paris are being called the “light-touch” Games – the first city in which the Games have been made to fit the city rather than the other way around. Luke Benedictus, Michael Gleeson and Tom Decent also take a deep dive into innovations in timekeeping, shoes and swimwear.

As well, Jane Cadzow talks to Paralympian Vanessa Low and her coach/husband, former Paralympian gold medallist Scott Reardon, and Benjamin Law rolls the Dicey Topics die with pole vaulting medal chance Nina Kennedy.

“Getting inside the head of elite athletes is not always easy, but Amanda Hooton makes it look that way with her insightful profile of one of the most exciting athletes going to the Games,” says Good Weekend editor Katrina Strickland.

“As soon as I heard that Nine was the broadcast partner for Paris 2024, I knew we had to bring the best longform journalists in the country to the job of telling this story.”

Good Weekend is published as part of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age every Saturday, and online at smh.com.autheage.com.aubrisbanetimes.com.au and watoday.com.au

Good Weekend special edition published Saturday, June 22. The Olympic Games Paris 2024 will run from July 26 to August 11 and will be broadcast on the 9Network and 9Now, and ad-free on Stan Sport.
