It’s time to relocate to Phillip Island

Five fresh duos will walk into an abandoned resort and transform it into five luxury family holiday homes, once again designed by longtime Block architect Julian Brenchley

For the first time in Block history, one of our teams will grow in size when Haydn – one half of our Melbourne team – welcomes a beautiful baby girl in the first week of filming. Plus, will the pressure of this exacting build become too much for some?

The postcard backdrop of Phillip Island is the perfect location to celebrate this milestone season, and The Block will be showcasing all the Island has to offer, including the famous Penguin Parade, local attractions and the bustling retail sector.

Host Scott Cam is back for a remarkable 18th season and he’ll be joined by co-host Shelley Craft in her 17th season with The Block

Plus, Dan Reilly now takes on the role as sole foreman, and real estate director Marty Fox joins Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer for the all-important weekly room judging. Longtime foreman Keith Schleiger and veteran judge Neale Whitaker are stepping back from their duties this season, but both will be making special guest appearances during the show.

The Block teams relocating to Phillip Island are:

  • Carpenter Jesse (29) and claims specialist Paige (27) – engaged couple from WA
  • Electrician Kristian (31) and restaurant manager Mimi (28) – newlyweds from SA
  • Plumber Ricky (34) and IT worker Haydn (37) – best mates from VIC
  • Events account director and furniture designerCourtney (32) and landscape business development manager Grant (29) – married couple from NSW
  • Hairdresser and business owner Kylie (37) and electrician and plumber Brad (32) – married parents from QLD

The 20th season of The Block will also be celebrated with a number of fan favourites returning to lend a helping hand for this monster build. And as this season builds to the nailbiting auction-day, a select group of Allstars will be helping these Blockheads to create something never seen on the Block before.

The returning Allstar Blockheads include:
Steph and Gian (2023), Eliza and Liberty (2023), Jimmy and Tam (2020), Alisa and Lysandra (2013, 2014), Ronnie and Georgia (2020, 2021), Michael and Carlene (2014), Kyal and Kara (2014), Tom and Sarah-Jane (2022), Omar and Oz (2022), Dale and Sophie (2012) and Andy and Deb (2019).

The Block premieres after the Olympic Games on Monday, August 12, at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Australians fall in love with Paris 2024 as viewing records smashed

As Team Australia experiences a gold rush from the pool and the rapids to the BMX track and tennis court, viewers have flocked to round-the-clock coverage on Channel 9, 9Gem and 9Now.

Since the Opening Ceremony on July 27, the Olympics has contributed to a daily average National Total TV Reach of 10.5 million viewers across Channel 9, 9Gem and 9Now.

The Olympics to date (July 24 – August 3) has reached 17.5 million people across Total TV Nationally, with Paris 2024 particularly resonating with Australians aged 16-39. This demo has busted media myths and confirmed that under 40s turn to live broadcast, live streaming and on demand television for unifying cultural moments. Only FTA television does this.

The first week of the Olympics saw 9Now attract the highest daily share in VOZ history in the key demo of People 16-39, and a weekly National Total TV Reach for this demographic of over 4.8 million. In the crucial demographic of People 25-54, more than 7.3 million have tuned into Nine’s coverage this week [Sunday 28 July – Saturday 3 August].

From Sunday 28 July – Saturday, August 3, Broadcast Television has reached a National TV audience of 15 million, the highest ever weekly reach for Nine.

Australians have embraced 9Now like never before. With more than 40 Live streams, on demand and live streaming of Channel 9 and 9Gem, the platform has 17% incremental reach with 2.6 million viewers solely watching the Olympics via 9Now.

Michael Stephenson, Nine’s Chief Sales Officer, said: “Paris 2024 is the streaming Olympics and it is the most addressable media event we have ever seen.”

“More importantly, the Olympic Games have proven what most people already know – the power of Total Television. Marketers that use live broadcast TV in combination with the growth in live streaming and on demand TV are delivering better results. It’s that simple. And the best bit, this isn’t an Olympics thing, you can do this every single day with every single campaign!”

The first week of the Games saw 9Now record the highest weekly reach against all broadcasters in VOZ history, reaching more than 6 million Australians [Sunday 28 July – Saturday 3 August].

The 40 live streams on 9Now have reached over 4.1 million people throughout the Olympic Games, with the most popular sports Basketball, Swimming and Equestrian. Over 1.5 million in the People 16-39 demo have been reached via these live streams, and account for almost one half of viewing for Skateboarding and Gymnastics.

Almost 7.5 million total people were reached nationally in July on 9Now – the highest monthly BVOD reach against commercial broadcasters in VOZ history – with nearly 1 in 3 people aged 16-39 in Australia reached (29.8%).

Overall, the highest rating session of the week was on Day 2, with the Night Session attracting a National Total TV Reach of 5.741m and a National Average Audience of 2.332m. This session featured Mollie O’Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus qualifying for the semi-finals of the Women’s 200m Freestyle.

Nine’s broadcast of Paris 2024 has captivated viewers, as our athletes unite the nation. All up, Australian commercial broadcasters achieved the highest weekly Total TV reach in VOZ history last week, reaching 19.2 million Australians.

Hamish Turner, Director of Programming and 9Now, said: “The Olympics is a cultural phenomenon that transcends sport and brings all Australians together at unprecedented scale. The diverse and sustained consumption across all platforms is truly unique.”

Legendary cycling commentator Phil Liggett announces he has commentated his final Olympics

Known affectionately as the ‘Voice of Cycling’ Liggett has been a mainstay of Olympic cycling commentary, with Paris being his 17th Games.

Liggett – who turns 81-years-old the same day as the Closing Ceremony – called his final Olympic event Sunday in Paris with the Women’s Road Race. While he may have commentated on his final Games, retirement isn’t on the cards quite just yet.

NRL on Nine celebrates Women in League Round

The round begins with Thursday Night Footy when the confident Cowboys swagger into Leichhardt Oval to play the struggling Tigers, who need to saddle up big time in defence to keep the high-scoring visitors in check.

Friday Night Footy will light up Perth as the Roosters play their first game there since 1995 when they meet Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins. They are fighting to stay in the top eight while the Roosters sit comfortably in the top four. Victory could come down to two of the best wingers in the competition: Dolphin Jamayne Isaako who snared a hat-trick in Perth last year, and Roosters flyer Dominic Young, with six tries in his last five games on the end of a backline that oozes class.

Danika Mason will lead the NRL on Nine coverage live from Perth, with analysis from Andrew Johns and Billy SlaterPeter Psaltis will call the game while Brad Fittler lends his expert insights from the sideline.

Sunday Arvo Footy will come from a packed house at Belmore Sports Ground when the Bulldogs attack the Canberra Raiders. The Dogs are undefeated at home this season, but the Raiders have had their measure in winning their last nine encounters. Raiders prop Josh Papalii will celebrate his 300th NRL appearance, while try-scoring Bulldogs second-rower Viliame Kikau looms as a potent danger man.

Round 1 of the Men’s Golf is first up featuring Australia’s Min Woo Lee and Jason Day, who will take on the challenging Golf National course.

Under the breathtaking backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, Australia’s men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams take to the sand as the preliminary rounds continue. Nine’s unrivalled digital cross platform reach proves a golden moment for brands during Paris 2024

Utilising Nine’s unique set of cross platform digital audiences, advertisers are now experiencing the halo effect of being part of big cultural moments that unite Australians.

From Nine’s broadcast TV and 9Now, to nine.com.au and WWOS.com to the smh.com.au, theage.com.au, afr.com and Nine’s audio sites, there has been substantial across-the-board rise in digital consumption of some of Australia’s most known brands.

Total Nine Publishing has recorded 69.2 million page views since the Games began [24/07 – 30/07] while nine.com.au has attracted 6.1 million page views.

Meanwhile, 9Now’s offering of live streaming and 40 FAST channels of Paris 2024 has recorded 1.3 billion minutes during the same period. The FTA BVOD platform has provided 18% incremental reach, with nearly 50% of those who have watched the Olympics solely via 9Now being aged 18-39.

With Nine’s coverage of the Olympics now reaching a National Total TV reach of 15.6 million Australians, brands who have campaigns across Nine’s premium channels are reaping the benefits of reaching audiences at scale.

A world first united media content ecosystem has allowed brands to reach huge audiences at scale in a campaign window that has stretched nearly 10 months called the Road to Paris.

Utilising Nine’s 20 million signed in users, brands can connect with audiences like never before. Nine’s first party data set has 68 different segments and nine Games verticals.

“The Olympic Games is simply the biggest digital event we’ve ever seen,” said Nine’s Director of Sales – Sport Matthew Granger. “Whether it be through streaming or through our premium digital brands, our multi platform content ecosystem is delivering a highly engaged premium environment for our partners at a massive scale, one that only Nine can provide as part of the greatest show on earth.”

9Network Olympic experts preview blockbuster Day 5 of Paris 2024

Finals action in the pool places Mollie O’Callaghan, King Kyle Chalmers and Shayna Jack on centre stage in the high octane 100m freestyle events, plus Zac Stubblety-Cook out to defend his 200m breaststroke gold medal from Tokyo.

Olympic gold medallist and 9Network swimming expert, Giaan Rooney, said: “This is shaping up as one of the biggest nights for Australia in the pool in Paris for so many reasons.”

“After her maiden individual Olympic gold in the 200m freestyle, and her lead off leg in the 4 x 100 free on night one being the fastest time in the world this year, Mollie’s confidence will be sky high, while Shayna is a woman on a mission after a history that would have buried most athletes. Expect Shayna to fight her way into medal contention with the grit she has so consistently displayed.

“While for Kyle Chalmers, if he can pull off victory in the Men’s 100m Freestyle, he will go down as one of the greatest sprinters in history.

“Zac is one of Australia’s most unheralded champions. Here to defend his Olympic Gold Medal in the 200m Breaststroke, he has flown under the radar leading into Paris but knows how to perform when it counts.”

The Matildas meet the USA in their final group game

After their heart stopping last gasp win against Zambia, the Matildas face a goliath of women’s football when they meet the U.S.A in their must win final game of the group stages.

Former Australian representative and Channel 9 Women’s football expert, Grace Gill, said: “The final group game against the USA is a monumental task. The Matildas have only beaten them once in their history and the current USA side is looking incredibly sharp under Emma Hayes.

“I’d expect an adjustment to how the Matildas approach this game, whether that’s in personnel, tactics or both.

“I’m looking forward to seeing those changes and hopefully what is the Matildas best performance yet. Undoubtedly it’s going to be an incredible challenge to overcome, but the Matildas love a challenge and put their best foot forward as the underdogs.”

Alex Cullen will have exclusive Australian broadcast access to the stadium in Marseille for the big game, to cover all the action and reaction, live and free on the 9Network.

Jess Fox is back in action chasing her second Paris 2024 gold medal

With one gold medal already hanging around her neck, Jess Fox has her eyes set on defending her Canoe Slalom C1 title from Tokyo 2020, in the high charged women’s finals.

9Network Canoe Slalom expert, Richard Fox, said from France: “The C1 Women’s event promises to be a tightly fought final, like the kayak event, with German Elena Lilik, Czech Gabriela Satkova and Tokyo silver medallist, Mallory Franklin of Great Britain the main challengers to Jess Fox world number 1 and defending champion.”

The Hockeyroos take on the USA
By Rebecca Greiner – Getty Images

Plus the Hockeyroos will take the next step on their Parisian path in Women’s Hockey, this time against the USA.

9Network Women’s Hockey expert and former Hockeyroos player, Georgie Parker said. “The hockeyroos will take plenty out of their comprehensive win against Great Britain with our seven Olympic debutants settling in. The USA are a notoriously fit and physical team which wewill most definitely be able to match.

“Australia’s defence is the area we need to tidy up most. We were exposed a few too many times in our opening matches, so I’m sure the group will look at this and make sure there are less counter attack opportunists against a fast paced USA side.”
