The Block Delivers Across Platform As The Biggest Reality Show Of 2017
Australia’s favourite renovation series, The Block, has secured its place as the biggest reality TV show of 2017 with a national audience of 3.477 million for the winner announcement on Sunday night – watching Josh and Elyse take out the $100,000 prize.
Sunday night’s auction grand finale drew a national average audience of 2.82 million for the overall program, bringing the series average for The Block in 2017 to 2.2 million (including encore screenings and streaming on 9Now).
The 2017 season saw significant double digit year-on-year growth in The Block particularly in overnight viewing from 1.458m in 2016 to 1.818m in 2017 (up 24.6 percent) and broadcast video on-demand (BVOD) and live viewing from 27,000 in 2016 to 60,000 in 2017 on 9Now (up 122 percent).

The Block also drove significant video and online traffic online across Nine’s digital properties, with long- form streams on broadcast video on demand (BVOD) platform 9Now seeing more than 169 million minutes of content streamed this year.
On 9Honey and Nine’s interior design/property website, Honey Homes, stories about The Block and its contestants were some of the most read over the past three months. These included articles on Scott Cam’s ultimatum to contestants Sarah and Jason, and Shelley Craft talking about the drama between contestants.
In short-form video, The Block recorded a 70 per cent increase in views, with over 2.05 million show-related streams across 9Now, nine.com.au and 9Honey.
