Get ready to delve into the fascinating world of identical twins with Australia’s Most Identical, a captivating new special event series, premiering Tuesday, June 24, at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now. 

The recent viral sensation of twins Paula and Bridgette Powers, speaking in perfect unison in an interview about a carjacking, has captivated the nation and sparked a renewed fascination with the unique bond shared by identical siblings. 

Nearly one in every 250 pregnancies in Australia results in identical twins, making them a valuable resource for our knowledge on genetics. But can some twins be more identical than others? 

Over two big nights, Australia’s Most Identical seeks to answer this question by bringing together 100 sets of twins from diverse backgrounds and putting them through a fascinating series of tests and challenges, ranging from mind-boggling 3D facial scans, to tests of their creative capabilities, and more.

Hosted by Scott Cam and Dr Jana Pittman, both parents of fraternal twins, this unique series will see Australia’s most alike twins vie for the title of the nation’s most identical pair, showcasing their uncanny similarities, in the name of science and a bit of friendly competition. 

From straightforward physical comparisons to complex intellectual and personality tests, we put identical twins under the microscope to offer contributions to the longstanding nature versus nurture debate and spark lively discussions in living rooms across the country. 

Bringing a winning combination of medical knowledge and a sprinkle of British wit, popular identical twin doctors and TV presenters, Dr Xand and Dr Chris van Tulleken, will curate the challenges, while Australia’s leading “twin experts”, Professor Sarah Wilson and Professor Jeff Craig, will assist in analysing the results, in consultation with Twin Research Australia. 

The ultimate decision, however, rests not in the hands of the experts or hosts, but with the initial 100 sets of twins who will cast their vote to crown their winning pair. 

This captivating social investigation series will have viewers seeing a lot more than just double, with its great characters, their intriguing bonds and quirky co-dependencies demonstrating the reality of sharing your identity with another.
