Who Wants to be a Millionaire returns with prime-time special events

Phone a friend and spread the good news – the world’s greatest quiz show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, is back on Nine.

Lock it in your calendar when Millionaire returns for a special television event from Monday, January 25, at 7.30pm on Nine.

The new series of special episodes will be hosted by Australia’s No. 1 quiz master, Eddie McGuire, and feature a roll call of the nation’s favourite celebrities and sports people, as well as our vital frontline workers.

In the celebrity specials, stars will compete as pairs in a battle to win one million dollars for their favourite charity. The star-studded lineup includes actress Rachel Griffiths with Rhys Muldone, television and radio personality Red Symons with Wilbur Wilde, actor Stephen Curry with Bernard Curry, radio hosts Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw, actor Samuel Johnson with Hilde Hinton and singer Ella Hooper with Jessie Hooper

Two of these celebrities, Rachel Griffiths and Red Symons, are returning to Millionaire after originally competing in a celebrity challenge back in 2000. Redemption will be on their minds as they attempt to take home a million for their chosen charity.

In the Australian sport stars special, athletes including basketball legend Andrew Gaze, AFL hero Gary Ablett Jr, AWFL’s Tayla Harris, NRL icon Billy Slater, Netball’s Geva Mentor, Olympic swimmer Mack Horton and Paralympian Jess Gallagher, will be competing for their chosen charities.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire frontline workers special, will feature emergency service professionals and volunteers. After an excruciatingly challenging year keeping Australians safe from fires and COVID-19, now it is time for these incredible people to attempt to walk away with a life-changing sum of $1 million.

Host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Eddie McGuire said: “We are starting the year with a bang. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire swept the nation after it premiered in 1999 and is still the greatest quiz show of all time.

“It is a joy to bring the format back to raise money for charities with some of Australia’s best celebrities and sport stars. It is also humbling to be able to give Australia’s incredible frontline workers a chance to take home big money.”

A whopping total of $82,785,000 has been won on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Millionaire Hot Seat over the past 22 years.
