Who are Australasia’s top companies leading the race in sustainability?
As companies find themselves more accountable than ever before on their environmental plans, The Australian Financial Review has launched the Sustainability Leaders list to showcase and celebrate the way Australasian businesses are tackling some of our most pressing environmental and societal challenges.
With Australasian businesses finding innovative ways to reach net zero emissions, the Sustainability Leaders list – to be announced in June 2022 – will name the top companies making a change and showcase them in editorial stories in the Financial Review.
With an increasing focus by investors, customers and employees on companies’ Environmental, Social and Governance outlook, reporting season is now so much more than maximising shareholders profits.
Companies now have to think more about their overall purpose – other than just maximising short term profits – and their corporate responsibility to help make the world a better place.
The Sustainability Leaders list, presented in association with global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG), is based on assessment of a company’s nominated sustainability innovation – whether it is an initiative, product, service or strategy. We’re looking for sustainability innovations that are making real progress in tackling sustainability challenges – and delivering business value along the way.
Sustainability Leaders list finalists will receive a company specific report with a summary of the organisation’s results on each dimension of the assessment, benchmarking data to reveal how the company performs compared to other entrants from that same industry and overall entrants, as well as key insights uncovered from the assessment process and from global studies.
“Australian companies are now leading the charge of decarbonisation, moving well in advance of governments down the path to hitting net zero emissions,” said Financial Review Editor-in-chief Michael Stutchbury.
“The intent of our new Sustainability Leaders List is to highlight businesses who are doing just that: tying purpose to profit by investing in innovative new programs, products and initiatives that tackle some of our most pressing environmental and societal challenges.
“We look forward to hearing from Australasian companies finding growth in sustainable business – and bringing you their inspiring stories and insights.”
