Tory Maguire named Executive Editor
Nine has named Tory Maguire as the new Executive Editor, overseeing mastheads The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Brisbane Times and WAToday.
Maguire will have editorial oversight of all these metro mastheads and was previously National Editor at the newspapers, where she oversaw coverage in key areas including national politics, business and world.
“I am very pleased to announce Tory Maguire has been appointed Executive Editor of The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, Brisbane Times and WAToday,” said James Chessell, Nine’s incoming Managing Director – Publishing.
“She has done a superb job since joining as National Editor in April 2018, helping reshape our federal politics, world and business coverage. Her news judgement, drive and attention to detail have been exemplary.
“Tory has brought added energy to our newsroom leadership. I have no doubt she will be unrelenting in pursuing our goals of breaking news, setting the agenda and lifting quality across everything we do in order to produce journalism that sets us apart and is valued by our paying subscribers.”
Maguire is a highly experienced editor and journalist. Prior to her current role, she was Editor-in-Chief of HuffPost Australia. She has also had senior editorial roles at News Corp.
Maguire’s promotion follows the promotion of James Chessell to Nine’s Managing Director – Publishing which was announced earlier today.
