Sunshine state sets scene for return of Super Netball season
A COVID-safe, condensed season of Suncorp Super Netball returns this Saturday LIVE and FREE from 1.00pm AEST and Sunday 1.00pm AEST on Nine and 9Now, with three games on Nine each weekend.
In a big win for women’s sport, the Queensland Government is supporting Australia’s premier netball competition, with most games scheduled in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and on the Sunshine Coast.
It will be a Sunshine State derby to open the season, with the Queensland Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning on the court at Nissan Arena in Brisbane at 1.00pm on Saturday.
Following what promises to be an electrifying first game, at 3.00pm the Adelaide Thunderbirds then play the West Coast Fever at Nissan Arena.
Closing out a massive first round, on Sunday at 1.00pm in Brisbane the NSW Swifts face off against Giants Netball before the battle of the Victorians, when the Melbourne Vixens play the Collingwood Magpies at Nissan Arena at 5.00pm.
With 14 rounds scheduled to go ahead this season, Super Netball teams across the country will continue to navigate evolving health orders and state border restrictions. As the first six rounds are played, governments and key competition stakeholders will monitor the COVID-19 situation pending the next phase of play.
Once again, Nine has a stellar commentary lineup for all the action on and off-court. Former
Australian netball vice-captain Bianca Chatfield returns, alongside Collingwood netball and Women’s AFL star Sharni Layton.
Queensland’s golden girl of netball, Laura Geitz, who led the Firebirds to back-to-back premierships, will be on the sideline, bringing her expert comments to the coverage.
Joining them are these expert commentators: netball legends Liz Ellis, Cath Cox, Anne Sargent and Sue Gaudion, plus Nine’s Seb Costello and Tom Rehn.
Nine’s Director of Sport, Brent Williams, said: “We are excited to welcome Suncorp Super Netball back to our screens in 2020. Despite the economic and health challenges the last few months have posed to the game, we are gearing up for what is undoubtedly the greatest netball competition in the world.
“It has been a mammoth team effort on all fronts to get this season up and running. Wide World of Sports is proud to continue its partnership with Netball Australia, Telstra and Suncorp.”
Nine’s Head of Netball, Keeley Devery, said: “We are thrilled to finally have the fourth season of Suncorp Super Netball underway. All the energy, passion and flair that we’ve come to expect from these elite athletes will make for captivating viewing over the next nine weeks.”
Netball fans can follow their favourite teams and enjoy three live games a week on Nine with coverage starting at 1.00pm on Saturdays and 1.00pm on Sundays on both Channel Nine and 9Now.
Suncorp Super Netball will also be broadcast this year on Telstra TV and the Netball Live app.
