The Giants from NSW play the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the Suncorp Super Netball preliminary final this Sunday on Nine, with the winner to meet West Coast Fever in the grand final on Sunday, August 26.

In the major semi-final on the weekend at Quaycentre in Sydney, West Coast Fever booked a grand final berth by defeating Giants Netball 63-57. Jamaican superstar Jhaniele Fowler was in red-hot form, shooting a perfect 48 goals from 48 attempts and landing her 800th goal of the season to secure a home grand final for the Fever. 

In the minor semi-final, Sunshine Coast Lightning knocked out the Queensland Firebirds 57-56 in a thriller at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre marked by a high-intensity last quarter. Kelsey Browne from the Lightning was named the Nissan MVP with a game-high 21 assists. 

Former Australian captain and Nine’s expert analyst, Liz Ellis, said: “The stage is set for a thrilling preliminary final. During the season these teams met twice, with the Giants having a slight upper hand, narrowly winning the first game and drawing the second. With the leading defenders of the season up against the big-game experience of the Giants and both teams at full strength, this grand final rematch will go down to the wire.” 

Super Netball host and Nine News presenter, Clint Stanaway, said: “After last weekend’s epic contests we can’t wait to see what drama Sunday’s preliminary final produces. With so much on the line, it’s game on for the Lightning and the Giants. I’m sensing another nailbiter.” 

Stanaway and Ellis will be joined by caller Sue Gaudion and sideline commentator Cath Cox.
