AFR BOSS names young executives for 2020

AFR BOSS has announced the BOSS Young Executive winners for 2020, the
program run in conjunction with Development Dimensions International (DDI) that is in its 17th year.

Many of 100-plus previous winners have risen through the C-suite ranks.
This year’s program was conducted against the backdrop of COVID-19 shutdowns and restrictions, so the finalist interviews and the CEO-for-a-day exercise were conducted virtually. The six 2020 BOSS Young Executive winners, detailed in today’s The Australian Financial Review, are:

  • Stephen Bowen, head of digital platforms and accelerators, Telstra
  • David Brennan, director of distribution, U Ethical Investors
  • Louise Howard, head of health and safety, Sydney Metro
  • Jessica Mellor, chief operating officer, The Star Gold Coast
  • Mark Sacco, chief operating officer, Light Project
  • Tiffany Slater, general manager women’s elite program, National Rugby League

BOSS Editor, Sally Patten, said: “In what has been a tough year for many, it is so encouraging to see that Australia is producing such promising leaders. These talented executives are responding to the challenges thrown up by the COVID-19 pandemic, an increasingly competitive business environment, and the need for organisations to meet rapidly shifting customer demands.

“Thanks again to DDI for working with BOSS on this wonderful initiative.”

DDI Australia managing director Andrew Warren-Smith said: “Leading virtually shifted to a critical skill requirement with this year’s BOSS Young Executives as they became the first of our 17 groups to complete their entire assessment and interview process virtually.

“This group showed just how ready they are to navigate and adapt to the virtual world of leadership and connect meaningfully with others. People crave connection most during challenging times and it was in the critical moments that this group of leaders was able to shine through,” Mr Warren-Smith said.
