Les Schirato AM, CEO of Vittoria Coffee, said: “This is the 20th year we’ve sponsored the Good Food Guide Awards. We sponsor the awards because the industry has been so good to me and helped build so many life relationships. This is a way of giving back to our industry and really celebrating our chefs.”
Edited by Myffy Rigby for the fifth year, the Good Food Guide is compiled by a senior reviewing panel, which includes The Sydney Morning Herald veteran restaurant reviewers Terry Durack and Jill Dupleix, The Age restaurant reviewer Gemima Cody, along with senior members of the Good Food editorial team including editor Ardyn Bernoth, deputy Roslyn Grundy, and writer Callan Boys.
“Editing the Good Food Guide is an honour and a privilege, and I couldn’t be prouder to work with such a talented panel of food professionals,” said Rigby. “This year the choices were particularly challenging – we’ve reached a point in the industry where everyone is punching well beyond expectations. Our winners are a true reflection of the state of play in Australian dining, which is wild, diverse and thought-provoking. It’s a wonderful time to be in food.”
New South Wales picked up a total of four awards, Victoria won three, while South Australia scored two. Queensland and Tasmania picked up one award each.
The evening saw Maggie Beer recognised with the Vittoria Coffee Legend Award.
“As a sponsor for 20 years, we’re involved in choosing the winner of the Legend Award. That’s the only award we’re involved in. We completely respect the independence of the Good Food Guide Awards,” said Schirato.
“They’ve always been independent. There’s nothing like it in Australia. The independence of the awards is something that’s highly important and we’re very proud of that.
“Maggie is a real icon in the industry. She’s simply an amazing Australian.”
