AFR’s Luxury Gets a Makeover Under New Editor Lauren Sams
The first edition of The Australian Financial Review’s quarterly glossy magazine Luxury for 2019, featuring Miranda Kerr, has been launched under the new editorship of Lauren Sams.
As part of a redesign of the large-format magazine, Luxury will put entrepreneurs, leaders in their field and captains of the luxury industry on the cover, starting with Miranda Kerr for the autumn edition.
A pioneer in organic beauty, Kerr reveals exclusively to Luxury that her business mentor is her husband, Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel.
“I teach him about health and wellness and he teaches me about leadership,” says Kerr, who was photographed exclusively for Luxury in the LA headquarters of her KORA Organics business.
The former Victoria’s Secret model also reveals to Luxury that she gave up several lucrative modelling contacts on Spiegel’s recommendation to focus on KORA Organics. The success of the business has seen Kerr rise to 52nd spot on the Financial Review Young Rich list.
The redesign sees Luxury expanding its coverage of beauty, wellness and fashion while maintaining the core staples of motoring, watches and travel.
The autumn 2019 edition also introduces an upfront section called POA, which Sams describes as a cheeky take on price on application, with a mix of zeitgeist-led mini-features and the very best of the new and now. Within POA will be the regular feature, The Classic, which will examine an iconic piece or product.
“With the redesign steered by art director Chloe Yeoman and design director Tim Beor, the new Luxury has been elevated and modernised,” Sams said. “In the same way the AFR Magazine tells the story behind the stories of Australian business, politics and culture, Luxury will now tell the story of the people who shape the luxury industry, here in Australia and globally.
“We will cover all pillars of the luxury industry, from fashion and beauty, health and wellness to food and wine, as well as our core traditional areas.
“My goal is simply for Luxury to be a cracking read, and with some of Australia’s best writers, under the auspices of Australia’s leading financial publication, I have no doubt it will be.”
As well as being the editor of Luxury, Sams is the Luxury correspondent for The Australian Financial Review. She previously worked for News Corp and Bauer Media.
