2GB and 3AW dominate Survey 1 as more people turn to talk
It’s the best start for Talk Radio in 20 years, with 2GB and 3AW off to a flyer in Survey 1 of the radio ratings in 2022.
GfK Survey 1 of 2022 reveals Nine’s talk stations increased total audience by 9% year on year, and 17% in the key advertiser demographic of People 25-54.
In Melbourne, Breakfast with Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft recorded a 23.4 Share – easily Number 1 and the best result for 3AW Breakfast since current ratings began in 2004. Mornings with Neil Mitchell was clear No. 1 with 17.9%
In Sydney, Ben Fordham Live has posted 2GB’s best Survey 1 Breakfast result in more than ten years – up 0.5 to 19.0%. Ray Hadley, who last week celebrated 20 years on Mornings at 2GB, notched up his 139th consecutive survey win with a 14.9.
Brisbane’s 4BC grew its audience to 8.2% – its best Survey 1 result since 2009. The Ray Hadley Morning Show is No. 1 with 11.2%. While Breakfast with Neil Breen’s 9.9% share is up 2 points on Survey 1 of 2021.
Perth’s 6PR now has 24% more listeners than Survey 1 of 2021. Breakfast with Gareth Parker and Mornings with Liam Bartlett have increased their year-on-year audiences by 17% and 13% respectively.

2GB 873 has started the year as Sydney’s No. 1 in Sydney with an audience share of 13.8%. This is 2GB’s 139th consecutive survey win.
- Ben Fordham Live is Sydney’s No. 1 breakfast show with a share of 19.0% – up 0.5 points.
- The Ray Hadley Morning Show retains its unbroken run as No. 1 morning show with a share of 14.9%. This is Ray’s 139th consecutive survey win.
- Afternoons with Deborah Knight is Sydney’s No. 1 afternoon talk show with 8.5% (Mon-Fri 12.00pm-3.00pm).
- Drive with Jim Wilson was up by 0.6 with a share of 7.7% (3.00pm-6.00pm).
- Money News with Brooke Corte is No. 1 in its timeslot with a share of 10.0%.
- Nights with John Stanley is a dominant No. 1 with 20.9% – up 1.5 points (Mon-Thurs 8.00pm-12am, Fri 7.00pm-11.00pm).
- 2GB Weekends is No. 1 with a share of 13.9%.

3AW remains No. 1 across Breakfast, Mornings, Drive, Nights and Weekends. The station is the No. 1 radio station in Melbourne recording an audience share of 15.9% in Survey 1.
- 3AW Breakfast with Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft continues its outright dominance with a share of 23.4% – the best ever survey one result (Mon-Fri 5.30am-8.30am).
- Neil Mitchell recorded a share of 17.9% to be a clear No. 1 in mornings (Mon-Fri 8.30am-12.00pm).
- Dee Dee Dunleavy is No. 1 afternoon talk show with a share of 11.7% (Mon-Fri 12.00pm–3.00pm).
- Tom Elliott is No. 1 in drive with a share of 14.3% – up 0.3 (Mon-Fri 3.00pm-6.00pm).
- Denis Walter is a dominant No. 1 at Night with a share of 15.8% (Mon- Thurs 8.00pm–12.00am, Fri 7.00pm-12.00am).
- 3AW Weekends is also No. 1 with a share of 14.0%.

4BC 882 posts a share of 8.2% among all people 10+ – its best survey one result since 2009.

- The Ray Hadley Morning Show is No. 1 in Brisbane with a 11.2% share – up 0.1 (Mon-Fri 9.00am-11.00am).
- Afternoons with Sofie Formica had a share of 6.6% (Mon-Fri 11.00am–3.00pm).
- Drive with Scott Emerson had a share of 5.8% – up 0.3 (Mon-Fri 3.00pm-6.00pm).
- Nights with John Stanley is No. 1 in its timeslot, with a share of 13.1% – up 3.7 (Mon-Thurs 8.00pm-11.00pm, Fri 6.00pm-10.00pm).

6PR 882 continues to dominate Talk Radio, with Survey 1 seeing the station posting a 7.8% share.
- Breakfast with Gareth Parker recorded a 10.0% share (up 0.1 points). .
- Mornings with Liam Bartlett continued as Perth’s #1 Mornings talk show, with a share of 9.2%.
- Steve Mills in Afternoons in afternoons recorded a share of 7.2%. (Mon-Fri 12.00pm-3.00pm).
- Perth Live with Oliver Peterson had a share of 6.5% share. (Mon-Fri 3.00pm-6.00pm).
- The Nightshift with Tod Johnston drew a share of 9.5% (Mon-Fri 8.00pm-12.00am).
